Course Description:
This course will further develop problem solving and exploratory experiences introduced in 7th grade Industrial Tech. Topics that will be focused on will be safety, design, evaluation, construction, and modeling. To help develop these skills, students will participate in hands-on experiences in each of these topics.
Standards/Objectives:
1. Students will develop an understanding of engineering design.
2. Students will develop an understanding of the role of troubleshooting, research and development, invention and innovation, and experimentation in problem solving.
3. Students will develop an understanding of and be able to select and use information and communication technologies.
Primary Projects/Units:
1. Safety Review
2. Woodworking: Clocks
3. ProEngineer: 3D Modeling
4. iMovie: Remembering BMS
Student Evaluation Methods:
Students will be evaluated in a variety of ways, which include tests, quizzes, hand-outs, and the design and construction of their projects.
Grading:
Total points received determines students grade. Categories are not used. (Total Points Earned/Total Points)x 100
A 100-93%
A- 92-90%
B+ 89-87%
B 86-83%
B- 82-80%
C+ 79-77%
C 76-73%
C- 72-70%
D+ 69-67%
D 66-63%
D- 62-60%
F 59% and below
Expectations:
Students are expected to follow the 4 “B’s”
1. Be courteous
2. Be respectful
3. Be understanding
4. Be responsible
Homework:
Class time is given for all projects. If a student does not complete the project in the amount of time given in class, they must set up a time with the instructor to complete the project. Due dates will be given at beginning of each project. Late work is accepted for partial credit.
Materials Needed:
1. Pen and Pencil
2. Notebook
3. Safety Glasses
4. 2 blank CD’s (Optional)
5. Lab Fee: For supplies used to construct students projects
